Project Pack #26 – The Elegance of Limits

In this project pack, the focus is on a specific type of thread. You are invited to be creative within these boundaries and discover how inspiring such “boundaries” can be.

The goal from the beginning was to get people to use pen and paper to create art. When Rick and Maria developed the Zentangle method, they realized that it’s not as easy as it sounds. You might think that limitless freedom encourages creativity, but the opposite is true. Guidelines, structures and boundaries encourage innovation, imagination and focus. Challenges often motivate us more than complete freedom.

Rick and Maria therefore developed a method with clear steps. The first steps – dots, frame and thread – form the basic framework. These pencil lines provide orientation and inspire the design.
